Um... i get it. Wierd stuff.... dont be fake?! Thats how I take it. I dont think Ben is saying you cant be wierd. I mean, come on, there are a lot of wierd people at church. Its not a bad thing. But, I think he means, dont be fake or judgemental. Just be real, dont be a butthead, be accepting of others, ect. We come to church to learn about God, look for guidence, search for answers that we will never find because people live by fear(i dont care what you say... you live by fear in one way or another everyday)... ect. Blah, Blah, Blah.

Ben, Im with you. No wierd stuff!!!

While I understand you wanting a place that is safe and comfortable for people, (which is how I'm interpreting this so correct me if I'm wrong), what if God wants to show up in a different, less comfortable way? Are you saying that if it's uncomfortable or out of the box that we have created for how God looks, it can't be God? Or just that at Timberlake, we are not OK with God showing up that way? Would you tell him "no" if he wanted to? The reason I ask is because before we moved I was part of a church that was fairly comfortable... with relevant messages and relevant musical worship (well...expressive worship, lifting hands which maybe is uncomfortable for some..some people did this, others didn't and actually it was fine either way which was honestly refreshing). Then God started showing up in more out of the box ways with some people weeping, some falling after prayer, etc. Along with it...repentance, restored relationships, amazing testimonies of healing, more people coming to Christ, more deep joy, and I realized through witnessing all of this is that sometimes God offends our American minds in order to fully get our hearts. Then I also realized I needed to trust God enough that if this is how He chose to show up, He would also make sure to cover those that witnessed it. So I guess what concerns me sometimes about a safe church is that I don't want to be protected from God. Does that make sense at all?

I guess I am trying to be a bit "politically correct " in not calling out what I consider weird. I still don't feel led to call it out specifically. I would say, you know it when you see it and if you have not seen it, you are blessed.

Your website used to say under "what to expect": No weird stuff. I see that statement is gone now. But reading above still does not really explain what you think would be weird stuff...and I'm just curious what you consider weird. The six things above talk about who you are or would like to be as a church which is great, but what is considered weird stuff? We're newer to this region so was curious.
