The last two weeks at Timberlake we have been focusing on prayer. This has not been an ethereal excercise, but rather a real attempt to connect with God in a deeper way.
One of the prayers that has helped me is the Serenity Prayer. If you have been to a twelve step group you are probably familiar with the shorter version, yet I am including the complete verison of that prayer. I hope it is helpful to you as well.
THE SERENITY PRAYER
“God grant me the serenity
to accept the thing I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace
Taking as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it;
Trusting that You will make all things right
If I surrender to Your will
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with You forever in the next. Amen.
