When a Christian Leader Falls

This last week it was discovered another great Christian leader, fell into sexual sin. This always causes me sadness. I am sad for him, his church and his family.

Yet, I am proud of the Christian community of leaders, including my friend, Greg Rohilinger, Senior Pastor of Palm Valley Community Church. They expressed an unwavering commitment to moral integrity in leadership, as the pastor in sexual sin was removed, at the same time they showed a steadfast commitment to his family and his restoration in Christ.

This sad situation was a great reminder to me. The Bible is pretty clear about this sin thing, it is bad and it is pervasive. We read in I John 1:8, “If we say we are without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.”

This means that we, (yes including pastor Ben) need to be honest about our struggles and to seek accountability and support before the breaking point occurs. This is why authentic, accountable and life giving community is a key value at Timberlake Church. I would ask that we would commit to hold each other up in prayer, as we seek to live lives that honor Christ.

As a sinner myself, I cannot express the importance for me to have people that are brave enough to speak cleanly and truthfully to me. I am so appreciative of our church leadership and Ben inparticular for raising the bar in our community of church for honesty. It's how I learn and how I make it my habit to be honest with myself about the sin in my life. Thank you!
