Difficult People

Starting next weekend I am doing a series called Difficult People at Timberlake Church. This may be the easiest series to get material for that I have ever preached. I am going to look at the Manipulative people, Needy people and Over critical people that we all have in our lives (or we have been in some one’s life.)

Do you have a story? I would love to have you e-mail it to me or you can post it on my blog.

Your query made me remember this ‘needy’ friend -
I met this friend in an exercise class – we hit it off though she was single, child free and still living at home, not a Christian – the opposite of myself. She was very supportive when I lost a pregnancy late on. Things went well for a while – her life was messed up in many ways and she said she valued my advice and support – she was interested in Christianity and I felt I could be a positive influence on her life. After a year or more I realised that we were in a rut – every time we met we talked about her, we went over the same ground again and again and though she prepared to take action in many ways she never did. She went through one bad relationship after another. Would call me at all hours wanting to talk then not see me for weeks on end. (sounds like a crazed boyfriend when I write it down!)I kept with the friendship because of how she had supported me early on, because she seemed to have no consistent friendships in her life. Gradually God helped me to realise that not only was I not the one that was going to help here but that she was sucking me dry – I was ignoring other friends – had forgotten what a two way street friendship should be – I pulled out gradually and when we moved to a new house I stopped seeing her altogether – it was only when I was away from the situation that I realised just how intense the whole relationship had got and God taught me that I can be choosy about my close friends and its not unChristian.
