I love Christmas time. I love the parties, I love the presents, I love the time with family, the memories and even the Santa thing (How many times in our culture do we celebrate fat old men). It’s good and I don’t think it has to take away from the true reason of the season for Christians, that we celebrate the creator of the universe became, “God with us” Matthew 1:23 (NIV)
In fact when it comes to Christmas my greatest disappointment is often church. (I know sort of weird for a pastor.) See, while I believe it is important to re tell the account of Jesus birth I think we spend too much time there, but don’t spend enough time on the more important, “Why.” Why would God go through such great lengths to connect with us and to rescue us.
Go to a football game and you see the why – John 3:16. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
My prayer for my family is that we will get the heart of God this season. That is it more about His gift, than ours. My goal is that we will respond in every way we can, to God’s great gift to us, the gift of his Son, Jesus Christ,
