I was born and raised in Washington. I have hiked on Mt. Si, Mt. Rainier, etc. Mountain man, no. Competent, I use to think so. That was until I went for a mountain bike ride on Tuesday.
I took my bike out to enjoy the great weather we have been having and thought I would do some “real mountain biking.” Now I haven’t ever taken my bike on any serious trails before but I thought, no problem, any idiot could do this–evidently I was wrong.
I was out on my bike, and making some great time. As one trail led to another, I thought I knew my way but then realized I was lost. Not the cool kind of Lost where John Locke appears out of the woods to save you (If you don’t watch Lost skip ahead), but the stupid kind of lost like, well… like I was. The kind where your family collects insurance money.
Eventually I found some people who were smarter than I was and followed them out of the woods. No injury, minus my pride. Note to self – next time I will leave a trail of bread crumbs.

Why do I find that so funny? I know, probably because I am the only mom in the country who got lost taking her child to school the other day which is only 2 blocks from the house!! Welcome to Washington:)

I got lost trying to get back home a week after we moved into our new place. I took a wrong turn off the freeway and couldn’t find my way back. Frustrating when you can see the freeway but can’t find a way to get on it. We only have 3 freeway ramps here. I learned to keep a map in my car. No hiking or biking for me anytime soon – still too chicken to venture off the paved road :)

I guess you’ll be shopping for one of those GPS thing-a-ma-jiggers for your bike now.
