Good news, Bad news

Faith talk seems to be pretty big right now. That is the good news. I am honestly impressed that much of the discussion in the national media has gone beyond the politics of faith to the tenets of faith.

The not so good news is that many people who identify themselves as evangelical Christians waiver as to whether or not Christianity has any exclusive claim on truth. I can understand why people might lean this way; they don’t want to appear mean or judgmental, or they simply might not know what the Bible really teaches.

However, there is a pretty big problem. If we choose the “all roads lead to God philosophy”, it presents a great danger. One, that people who need an all-powerful God will choose a substitute that can not bring real forgiveness for sins, healing for hurts or connect them to God. Two, that we can become disconnected from the certainty of our own faith that there is a real God who really cares, really judges, and really saves. It may be popular to choose the cafeteria-style faith, but just like any cafeteria, they tend to offer a lot, but not much that ends up being worthwhile.

SIDE NOTE : One movement that I find interesting is called the Truth Project. The goal of this is to help Christians get a better grasp of our own faith and biblical worldview. I encourage you to check it out.
