Money Stress

I get tense about money, at least when I feel like I don’t have enough. Unfortunately, that tension can spill. (I hope I am not the only one here; if I am you have no reason to read further.)

A few months ago the Carvel Ice Cream in my neighborhood closed. Unfortunately, a store closing has not been that uncommon in the last year. However, it is the way this store closed that caught my attention.

Instead of being mad at people for not buying their product, or simply just fading away, they threw a party giving away the ice cream they had in their store. It would have been easier, less embarrassing and probably less expensive to simply shut down. Yet, someone made a decision; the economy and its effect on them would not define the way they treated people or approached life.

When money gets tight, emotions are raw. The scripture says, “Above all else, guard your heart… .” Proverbs 4:23 (NIV). A good reminder in a tough economy.
