Decide what percentage of your income you are going to live on.
All of us are living on a percentage of our income. Some of us live on 90%, some of us 102%, or some even 120%. Yet, we can gain control of our lives when we decide what the percentage will be.
You need to pick the percentage – not culture, creditors or bad habits.
I have decided to live on 80%. I give 10% to the Lord’s work, I put 10% into savings and investment, and the government and I split the rest.
Do you know what that gap between where I live and where I could live is called? Peace.

Hey Ben,
Cool blog. Question: What’s the best way to organize your finances?
Robin
Ben… I would like to ask you a question about how the Bible says we should respond in the following situation. I am torn.
From what I was taught as a kid, I was told that God tells us to pay our debts. That if we borrow a dollar, we pay that dollar back.
Here is my situation. I have a friend (also a Christian) who bought a house about 1½ years ago. As we all know, the market has taken a big dive. Well, now his house is not worth what he owes. He wants to get out of his house so that he doesn’t have to pay for a house that is worth less than he owes (about $200,000).
He has decided to NOT pay the mortgage even though he can so that the loan will go into default and they will come and take his house. Yes, the new payment will make the families lifestyle very tight and difficult, but it is manageble if they decide to pay it.
How do you see this according to the Bible? What should I tell my friend?
